Mx. Lauren Johnson, MS, LRIC

Mx. Lauren Johnson (he/him) is a Licensed Resident in Counseling and one of The Children's Clinic of Fredericksburg's contractors who is currently working towards his clinical licensure. He is a queer, neurodivergent therapist with over 7 years of clinical experience. Lauren graduated with a Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and a Bachelor's in Psychology: Counseling and Human Development at Liberty University.

 

In Lauren's prior clinical experience, he worked with clients of all ages in a variety of settings to include outpatient, milieu, school, home, and community settings. While working at Horizon Behavioral Health community service board, Lauren provided crisis stabilization services via individual, group, and family therapies to children, adolescents, and their families in the Central VA area.

 

Lauren is experienced and skilled in working with children, adolescents, and adults, and he specializes in working with trauma survivors from the LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent communities. His areas of focus include trauma, complex trauma, childhood trauma, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Autism, and Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), depression, anxiety, and obsessive-compulsive (OCD) and related disorders. Lauren has received LGBTQ+ Safe Space Training and has experience providing this training to groups in the community. He has also received training in working with Autistic clients as well as children experiencing parental separation and divorce. Lauren's primary therapeutic modalities include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, Somatic Awareness, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy.

 

In Lauren's academic work, he played a key role in developing an e-Book and curriculum for an undergraduate course on developmental psychology, and he presented research on counselor responses to culturally embedded sexism at a graduate research symposium. In his free time, Lauren enjoys engaging in his special interests, cuddling his cats, and spending time with his chosen family.
