Possible Mild Fractures Treatment
Possible Mild Fractures Treatment With Doorstep Urgent Care
Convenient Pediatric Urgent Care for Possible Mild Fractures
When your child falls off the playground, takes a hard hit during sports, or has an accident at home, it can be difficult to know whether it’s just a bump or something more serious. At DoorStep Urgent Care, our mobile pediatric team can evaluate possible mild fractures and other musculoskeletal injuries in the comfort of your home, helping families determine the next best step without immediately heading to a crowded urgent care center.
While some injuries may involve only bruising or a sprain, others can result in a small fracture that requires medical evaluation. Our providers perform a thorough assessment, checking for swelling, tenderness, range of motion, and other signs that may indicate a broken bone. We can provide pain management recommendations, stabilize the injury when appropriate, and determine whether additional testing is needed.
Because X-rays cannot be performed during an in-home DoorStep visit, some children may need to be seen at The Children’s Clinic of Fredericksburg for diagnostic imaging. Our office offers on-site X-ray services, allowing us to quickly confirm whether a fracture is present and recommend the most appropriate treatment.
If your child’s injury appears severe—including obvious bone deformity, significant swelling, severe pain, uncontrolled bleeding, inability to move the affected limb, numbness, or if the bone is visible through the skin—seek immediate emergency medical care or call 911. These injuries require emergency evaluation and should not wait for a home visit.
For many less severe injuries, DoorStep Urgent Care offers families a convenient first evaluation, helping you avoid unnecessary trips while ensuring your child receives prompt, compassionate care. If imaging or additional treatment is needed, we’ll help coordinate the next steps so your child receives the care they need as quickly as possible.
Go to the emergency room or call 911 if your child has lost consciousness, has bone visible through the skin, or is experiencing blood loss.

Frequently Asked Questions About Possible Mild Fractures
How do I know if my child's injury could be a fracture?
A fracture may cause pain, swelling, bruising, tenderness, difficulty using the injured arm or leg, or pain when putting weight on the affected area. Because symptoms can be similar to a sprain, a medical evaluation is recommended whenever you’re unsure
Can DoorStep Urgent Care diagnose a broken bone?
Our providers can examine your child and determine whether the injury appears suspicious for a fracture. However, an X-ray is often needed to confirm the diagnosis.
Does DoorStep Urgent Care perform X-rays at home?
No. Our mobile medical unit does not provide X-ray imaging during home visits. If your provider believes imaging is necessary, they may recommend visiting The Children’s Clinic of Fredericksburg, where on-site X-rays are available.
When should I go directly to the emergency room?
Seek emergency care immediately if your child has a visible deformity, severe swelling, intense pain, heavy bleeding, numbness, loss of circulation, or if a bone is protruding through the skin. These injuries require emergency treatment.
What types of injuries can DoorStep evaluate?
Our providers can evaluate many common pediatric injuries, including suspected mild fractures, sprains, strains, bruises, minor sports injuries, and falls. After the examination, we’ll recommend the most appropriate next steps for your child’s care.
What should I do while waiting for my child's evaluation?
Keep the injured area as still as possible, apply an ice pack wrapped in a towel for 15–20 minutes at a time, elevate the limb if possible, and avoid allowing your child to put weight on the injury until they have been evaluated by a medical provider.
